To Danielle: Fiddler Spider ,I think,is the one you have now. And California is one place to be if ever you are bitten, never 30 minutes away from a Poison Center. Lots of stuff out there that can ruin your day. And they make great watchdogs! Just set loose a Mexican Redleg with a button tied on it's back leg for you to know were it's at. See if anyone breaks into your place and enjoy the fun! Interesting species,322 milion years old and still going strong.

I spent 14 months in Oz and met many a spider.

The Sydney Funnel Web (which I did not meet, thank god) is another nasty one. Big, shiny black, with 1cm long fang things that can apparently pierce your toe nail. It also delivers a good dose of toxin.

Wolf spiders there too. Nasty things.

In Canada there is the brown recluse (and another but I forget the name of it) that has come up from California. Both spiders will cause skin necrosis if bit by them. Extremely painful and can end up fatal very quickly due to severe and wide spread tissue death. Ewwwwwwwww!!!

Ah, spiders give me the creeps! I think my fear stems from my tomboy self at an early age trying to smash a spider in slow motion with my rollerblade. It was a pregnant spider and it had thousands of little babies that started running EVERYWHERE. Most terrifying thing.. EVER. I enjoy Halloween, but I'm always happen when those fake ones go back into the boxes in the attic. Thanks for the entertaining post about your experiences!

Michael - the huntsman spiders seem like a good variety to have around, but I can imagine the startle factor every time you go into your garage!

DC - yes, most of the creepy, crawly critters are in check, except for the occasional wolf spider that makes it into the house when it starts to get cold out. Yikes! Even our cat avoids those ones

"There was no music (good) but there was the occasional light tap-tap of something moving on the blinds (not good)."

Hilarious!

Canada may get pretty cold in the winter but I like to think of it as keeping the creeping, crawling critters in check.

Glad to see you left the mighty red back spider alone, can give a nasty bite when stirred up. The biggest problem with them is the can be anywhere where you need to grab things in the shed, you just don't see them.
Now for the lovely Huntsman,. We have one living in our back garage and to this day he still scares the hell out of me because of the speed in which they move, very quick. I do love this spider but not when he greets me at the door then shoots off at a hundred miles an hour, I am just not ready for it.

Regards
