Throw off the bowlines

Because this quote was too long for Twitter’s required max of 140 characters, I’m posting it here in support of all those officers who have put themselves out there on Social Media.

Is Social Media an easy landscape to navigate as an officer? No.

Do the ‘haters’ try and bring you down with their incessant and volatile comments? Yes.

But remember this – there are HUGE inroads to travel when SM is used properly and effectively. It is absolutely and unequivocally worth it.

And so, I leave you with this:

    Thanks for putting up with the haters. It’s gotta be a pain in the ass. Thanks to you and other LEO bloggers, I have a much better idea of what police work really looks like, what LEOs worry about, and how to handle myself when I come in contact with them. It’s really good information to have.

    For every hater you come across, know that there are also people who respect and appreciate you. Some people just have a hard time showing their appreciation. Police officers have such a thankless job. A simple ‘handshake’ and a ‘thank you’ would go a long way, I know! I never pass up the opportunity to let my own officers know how much they are appreciated. Be safe

    No better way to put it than you have Sandra.

    Having recently launched our blog I find myself defending the benefits of social media with some in the community as well as fellow police officers that are unfamiliar with it. It is no doubt a challenge. It’s a new concept for media for a lot of people however we need to remember we have a whole generation coming into their adult years that have always known life with social media. This new generation is going to become our new community and business leaders in the next few years. There’s no better time than now to start.

    For every challenge I only need to recall the extremely positive feedback I’ve already received and remember that while there are haters and doubters there is a silent majority that respects and appreciates the dialogue. We can not let the vocal nay-sayers take that away.

    Thank you for being one of the pioneers!
