Change the Conversation – Youth Video Contest!!

Change the Conversation is a national education program on impaired driving in Canada.  Their website is designed as “an information resource that communities, educators and parents can rely upon to raise awareness” about drinking and driving and what can be done to address it.

Here’s the cool thing if you happen to be, or know someone who is, between the ages of 15 and 25:

Change the Conversation is hosting a video contest (open only to those 15-25 yrs) where the goal is to create either a 15 or a 30 second public service announcement (PSA) with an impaired driving message geared at the same age group.

The deadline is January 15, 2012, after which, submitted videos will be posted on YouTube, www.youtube.com/Changetheconvo, so the public can view and vote for their favourite.  The video with the most votes wins the People’s Choice Award, and the top videos will be shortlisted and presented to a panel of judges.  The judges (listed below…hint hint) will determine the first, second and third place winner in each age group of 15 to 18, and 19 to 25.

The Grand Prize winners will be awarded a Young Driver’s defensive driving course for new drivers, and their video will be sent to all radio and television stations across Canada.

How cool is that?  A defensive driving course is something I believe ALL drivers should take, regardless of age, experience or skill level.  But getting the chance to win one by creating a great video with an important message?  Even better!

Now for a bit of additional news – Change the Conversation and Young Drivers of Canada asked if I would be one of the judges.  I gave a loud and resounding ‘Yes!’ as this sort of contest is one I completely support.

Here’s an introduction to the other judges:

So get out your video cameras, put your creative minds to work, and let’s see what type of message you can come up with.

I’ll be posting updates here, and maybe even a video or two.  For complete information on how to enter the contest and to read the rules and regulations, please go to Change the Conversation, Speak Your Mind Video Contest.

Good luck!
