A Toronto police officer lost his life earlier today after trying to apprehend a suspect who had stolen a snowplow. Sgt. Ryan Russell was struck and killed, and leaves behind a wife and young child.
To Sgt. Russell’s comrades, friends and family – my thoughts are with you.
To Sgt. Russell’s wife and son – to wear a badge is to know the inevitable may happen long before nature’s intention, even when we are honourable and true in our pursuit of safety and peace. You are in my prayer’s during this very difficult time.
I did not know Sgt. Russell, but we stood for the same purpose. We feel the loss even here, on the West Coast.
** Sgt. Russell’s funeral was today, January 18, 2011. May he rest in peace.
