I have a feeling there might be a bit of a patriotic hangover after all of our celebration is done. I too have never seen this level of patriotism from our citizens. The spontaneous bursts of crowds singing “O Canada” on Robson and Granville St. will always be a wonderful personal Canadian memory. The achievements of our athletes have been a monumental mark in our nation’s sports history, but the unity of the everyday person with each other over these events and our athletes was a pride that was insurmountable.

Canada, and especially Vancouver, have earned an additional gold medal for security and safety for the games.

Our women have nothing to apologize for. They had a well deserved beer after reaching the pinnacle of their sport.

And now after a small scare late in the third against Slovakia I hope to see the men doing the same on Sunday!

Dear Sandra,
I’m not seeing “Canada’s embarrassment” either. What for? They trained like Spartans and they did the good–for each other as well as their nation. Hey! Lighten up!

I guess when these women athletes were done skating their hearts out, they were supposed to meekly retire and knit tea cozies or something. Tsk-tsk. I don’t know what the world is coming to.

Likewise, I don’t see the scandal in celebrating a gold medal with a cold one or two out on home ice. Congrats, Canada.
