The truly "funny" story this past Halloween happened when a guy really killed himself by putting a bullet in his head on his balcony, and the neighbours thought his corpse was a Halloween prop and did not bother calling the police. This was in the news.

Halloween, evil a "holiday" as it is, has also become a way to express one's sickness to the public. The police should do something about it, please. Mischief laws apply all year long, right?

This is why I don't like the horror side of Halloween. I feel like there's enough of it in real life. However, this Christmas one is hysterical. Very National Lampoon.

I understand people doing stuff like this for a laugh in thier decorations and most of the time it is funny. Something these decorators should do is put a warning near said decoration that "THIS IS A DUMMY, NOT A REAL PERSON" and tie down the ladder to make sure no one hurts them selves. Probably should notify the local police(and other emergancy departments) as well just to give them a heads up about incoming calls about it.

That is great. I've heard many stories of Halloween decorations getting called in when someone thinks the body's real. I always thought it was an urban legend - I'm not sure if I'm pleased to find out it isn't!

I've also read much more tragic news reports of haunted houses with a live person playing the part of a 'hanged body', so it can 'come to life' and scare people, resulting in tragedy when the person slips and really does hang himself. For the love of Pete, be careful with that one.

Mad props to the Christmas decorator in your story. He could probably get that submitted as art somewhere - consider it a metaphor for holiday commercialization and the predicament it leaves us in. Or just frame it and put it on the wall, and see how many guests will believe it really happened! I can see why it had to come down, but that is all kinds of awesome.
