Curt - you're an idiot.

Anyone who endangers other people while driving deserves to lose their driving privileges for life.

It's one thing to do it, but it's an entirely different thing to say it. Not very smart.

PS: The level of professionalism that your job requires unfortunately kept you from returning the favour from the ticketing incident and blowing him a kiss as he got hauled away. Too bad!

No matter how annoying the accused (or defence counsel on occasion!), it has been my experience that judges/JPs are pretty capable of separating themselves from their irritation and ruling appropriately.

I loved the story though. A colleague of mine in Surrey once skulked around the courthouse parking lot because he was convinced the accused he'd just prosecuted successfully for driving while prohibited had driven to court. (Of course, getting convicted of that offence means an automatic one-year driving prohibition kicks in from that point, not to mention the judge pretty well always imposes a prohibition as well.) My colleague's instincts were bang on, and he was quickly on the phone with Surrey RCMP who swooped in and arrested the accused.

I could go on with other similar stories - as Sandra says, the results are usually things of beauty!

Great story, a classic indeed.

I've been following your blog for a while now (first time posting) and must say that it has given me (and I'm sure others) a great insight into what policing is like in Vancouver. I have active applications with a number of the municipal forces in the GVR and applied to the VPD but am still waiting to be reviewed; clearly an extremely busy time for the department. Looking forward to starting the process to say the least! I must say though, the Transit Police have been surprisingly quick at processing my application. Looking forward to hopefully joining your profession in the near future.

Thanks for providing a window into your work. Stay Safe.

Chris - I'm not sure, and this question is out of my area of expertise. I would think traffic records may be admissible in criminal court if certain requirement are met, but that's only a guess on my part - any lawyers out there care to answer this one? You can comment anonymously if you like ;)

Moe - his car was not impounded on the first instance as there was (at the time) no legal authority to do so. That hs since been ammended.

HA. Very funny, what a dummy. He's late for court once and just makes it the second time, then gets caught driving away in his corvette after he's prohibited to drive.
Good idea in the end to have his car being watched, you guys caught him red handed. I think his car should have been taken away in the first place, the motorcyclist did so why not his?

Sandra
Thanks for explaining the differences between traffic court decisions and the Provincial Court criminal system.
I guess my next question will have to be:
Will the Provincial Judge know about the traffic court tickets?
