This year, there was a lot of support for Anti-bullying day on facebook. Many people posted statuses saying that they were going to wear pink to support Anti-bullying day and encouraged others to do the same. Some people thought it would be humorous to post response statuses saying things like "stop bullying me into wearing pink." Yes, I see the irony in the joke but I was very upset that people were making fun of a very serious issue. Isn't that how bullying starts? "it was just a joke, we were just having a little fun, they're too sensitive, they couldn't handle it," No one would make a joke about their mom/sister/gf having breast cancer during the Weekend to End Breast Cancer (for example) so why is it OK to do it on Anti-bullying day?
Previously, bullied students in school were able to find sanctuary at home but with the huge popularity of social networking and the ease of internet, bullying never ceases to stop.
Nitz, I'm sorry to hear that you are bullied via internet. As for internet crimes...you mean like identity theft, child pornography and soliciting underage children for sex...there are criminal investigations for that. (right?)
"If you think a pink t-shirt is going to solve your problems, you have a very difficult life ahead of you."
Just 3 years ago, this happened in the highschool of a small community in Cambridge, Nova Scotia and now it is Canada wide. Wearing pink now might not stop bullying completely, but its a start! Giving kids the courage to stand up for something by wearing pink is a start. Maybe the courage to wear a pink shirt on anti-bullying day will give the courage for that kid to speak up when he or she witnesses an act of bullying later.
It's about awareness, support and change!!

With positive and sincere regards,

Oh, come on, Mike....wearing a pink shirt is a show of support and solidarity in the fight against bullying.

I agree the government doesn't need to solve this, and it really is up to the people to not tolerate bullies.

I have a spider problem in my house. How come the police don't have a division devoted to solving that issue too?

Give you collective heads a shake, people. Bullying sucks and you can stop it. You don't need to government to solve this one for you. Honestly.

If you think a pink t-shirt is going to solve your problems, you have a very difficult life ahead of you.

Best of luck.

bullying does not only happen in schools. at 60, I am a victim of internet bully.
why can't the police have a criminal investigation division devoted to internet crimes!

i will wear pink!

these bullies esp the internet bullies, are cowards, they hide behind their computers - they are sick people and need to be locked up and treated in a mental institution.

Not at all, Carolyn. Even though the focus of Anti-Bullying day stresses childhood and teen bullying, adults can be bullied too.
