Hello Molly,

First of all, I'm sorry your building and underground parking lot was broken in to. Parking lots, particularly ones attached to residential buildings, can be a tempting target for car thieves - they get in there and are able to work in relative seclusion. I'm not sure if the VPD puts Bait Cars into private/residential parking lots, but I will find out and get back to you on it.

If you could send me an e-mail at sandra@behindtheblueline.ca with where you live, then I can see what we can do to help you out. An e-mail will keep your information private, and only I will be able to read it.

If you catch someone in your underground, please do not try to stop him or approach him. The best thing you can do is to try and keep an eye on him (from a safe distance) while you call 911. Try to get a good physical description, and stay on the line with 911 until an officer comes to speak to you, or until the 'bad guy' is in custody.

Calls like this are a priority - we call this one a 'theft from auto in progress', and you can rest assured that police units will respond right away. If we all work together as a team, and the suspect is not startled into flight, we have a very high success rate at catching these guys in the act.

Our building has been broken into several times in this year and both me and my partner, plus several of our friends in the building have been broken into. Sunday night about 5 cars were broken into all the same underground. We think it someone that possible has access to the underground parking. There are no cameras and management does not seem to be caring. We pay extremely high rent and taxes and wanted to know if the VPD could plant a bait car in the underground parking and nab this thief before someone gets hurt. Meaning if I’m in the undergrounds and bust him and he attacks me because I saw him.

In response to your blog, I would find Church, temple, rec center, maybe go to McDonald and ask them for food or maybe a old friend who could maybe help. I know we sometimes cannot help the situations we get into, but I believe in Karma and all this stealing is just more negative energy with will haunt them later in life. I would be hard for me to feel sorry for them, because I don’t think they would feel sorry for me if I was in the same situation.
